WOMEN ARE RISING

2017 began with the Women’s March — an international event drawing millions of women and men together in solidarity — and ended with the #MeToo movement.

People all over the world are standing up for what they believe in, demanding equality, and bringing women’s rights to the forefront of the global stage — making it one of the most critical issues of our time

Yet, at all levels of private and public life, there are not enough female leaders.

BUSINESS

Only 32 of Fortune 500 companies have female CEOs.

Women earn 79% of their male counter-part. (and this number is even lower for women of color).

Approximately 20% of S&P 500 board seats are held by women; women of color are nearly invisible.

FINANCE

Only 20% of all business investment goes into women-led businesses — and it’s worse for minority women.

Women-led companies made up 4.94% of all VC deals in 2016.

In 2016, women received 2.19% of venture capital funding.

POLITICS

Less than 20% of Congress members are women.

Globally, women account for 49.7% of the population but hold only 22% of public offices.

The U.S. currently ranks 100th in the world in the percentage of women in national legislature.
